Unlocking the Disability Access Key
The disability access key, called the Master Locksmiths Access Key (MLAK), makes it a whole lot easier to use disability specific facilities, such as lifts and public toilets when accessing the community.
The Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia (MLAA) provides keys to people living with disability that allows 24/7 access to facilities that are locked to the general public, such as disabled toilets and lifts all around Australia.
The MLAK is available for purchase from the MLAA. It can open all locks that are fitted with the MLAK cylinder.
People living with brain injury may require the extra space of a disabled toilet for several reasons, such as:
- Manoeuvring a wheelchair or mobility scooter
- Providing room for a carer
- Accommodating an assistance animal
The MLAK can also provide access to lifts that are not available to the general public. For example, a shopping centre may expect the public to use escalators or stairs and restrict access to lifts.
Who Is Eligible For A MLAK?
To apply for a MLAK you need to provide documentation of your disability and pay a small fee.
The application form is available from the Master Locksmiths Association of Australasia
Your MLAK will be posted to you once your application has been processed.
